Mary Elizabeth and Corey wanted their summer Charleston engagement photos to take place downtown as well as on the beach. The best part about Charleston is that both of those places are so conveniently close together.  It gives your engagement photos such a variety! We took a nice long stroll along the neighborhoods downtown and danced our way across streets. These two are so adorable, it was pretty easy to photograph them in their natural element. They are hilarious and we were all laughing our booties off the entire time!

Charleston holds such a special place in both their hearts. It was only fitting we use Charleston as the backdrop for their engagement photos. Mary Elizabeth also picked out the best outfits for their experience! Her dress was perfect for floating around the historic homes. That smile of hers brings a smile to your face and as a couple, their happiness is contagious. They are people you just want to be around!

I love exploring cities with all my couples, especially when we all have such a deep love for them. These two love Charleston as much as I do, so it was a blast wandering around together. We exchanged stories and shared our favorite places to eat. We love the same beaches and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! That day we were able to have a beautiful evening on Sullivan’s Island at the end of the day. The weather was flawless with a gorgeous breeze, and we had the beach almost entirely to ourselves. Mary Elizabeth and Corey’s summer Charleston engagement photos were a great way to end the day.

I’m so happy to see these two get married and start their life journeys together. They truly are some of the sweetest people around, and I’m so lucky to have had them brought into my life.

Shiplock Park Engagement Photos with Jay + Hanh

I adore this couple so much! I met them through a mutual friend whose wedding I photographed last year. I’m so glad Blair introduced us, because Jay and Hanh are so cute and fun! They are also parents to a darling little boy Zach. We were able to have a sweet family session in addition to an engagement session. The moment I am looking forward to the most on their wedding day is seeing Zach in a tiny suit!

Jay and Hanh are getting married this fall at Historic Tredegar. This is such a cool spot in downtown Richmond. They’ve transformed this amazing history museum into a wedding venue as well, and all the brick and river views make it an incredible spot. I’m so lucky to live in a city with so many gorgeous wedding venues available. Tredegar is perfect for a couple looking for a more urban and historic backdrop. It also comes in handy to have the river right across the street. It doesn’t get prettier than that!

The marriage of nature and industrial backdrops in Shiplock Park engagement photos is amazing.  These two put up with some very hot temperatures to have these photos taken. They are such good sports, but especially Zach. He didn’t complain once and he basically stole the show. I am pretty much counting down the days until their wedding when I can see this little cutie again. Jay and Hanh were super smart and brought along help to take care of Zach while we took photos of just the two of them. This is pretty handy when you have photoshoots with kids and dogs. I always recommend bringing a dog handler or childcare along to give everyone little breaks. You never want to be worrying about your little ones, furry or not, roaming off or getting into trouble. This helps everyone stay relaxed and enjoy the experience to the fullest extent.

Kiawah Island Family Photos – Charleston Family Photographer

I was so excited to meet Caroline and her big family while they were on vacation down in Kiawah Island. This group is so sweet and they don’t always get to be together in the same place at once. Everyone lives all over the country, so there is something special about spending a week together reconnecting.

Photographing families is such a blast, but it’s even more fun when you add bunch of families into the mix. Everyone has their own family dynamic, and it’s always so fun to see the little kids interacting with each other. All the little cousins were best friends and helped make each other laugh. It’s a great way for everyone to be included in the entire process. I always have the littlest family members stand with me and make funny faces at their parents or cousins to make them smile. These Kiawah Island family photos still make me smile.

It’s also so important to make sure mom and dad have their moment alone without their kids. They usually forget to ask for photos of themselves as a couple, but it’s great to include this in your shot list for the day. You want to have updated couple’s portraits! So many people don’t do this past their wedding and it’s so silly. Have fun with each other as well as with your kids throughout the session!

Kiawah Island is such a stunning backdrop for any kind of session. You can’t beat those water views, and the tropical foliage is stunning. We had thunderstorms rolling in right afterwards, and we narrowly escaped a huge downpour. We had all made it safely into our cars when the rain let loose!

        Richmond VA Birth Photographer

I have been so lucky to be the life photographer for Christy and James ever since their engagement years ago when I was first starting as a photographer. These two humans are the kindest and most generous people you will ever meet. It has been my good fortune to get to know them in so many different ways.  It is beyond an honor to be considered their friend. From their wedding to their first born Slate, I have seen Christy and James throughout all the big life moments. When they were welcoming baby boy number two into the family, it was only fitting I be there for the journey.

Christy and I had been staying in touch daily for the past two months about baby Atlas’s status. This kid was not in a rush to be born. It was lucky that I happened to be in town for a wedding when Christy went into labor. As soon as my wedding ended, I drove to their house. An hour later, we drove to the hospital together and very shortly afterwards, welcome Atlas into the world.

There is nothing quite like being in the delivery room with a couple as they welcome their child into the world. It’s even more special when it is a pair of very good friends that you respect so much. I loved witnessing the emotion from the pain to the joy. Birth is a whirlwind journey full of emotions. Every bit is as beautiful and miraculous as they make it out to be. I have been a part of other deliveries, and this one was just as special.

Little Slate was with us the entire night and morning. I think he was more excited than all of us to be welcoming “his baby” into the world. He couldn’t stop smiling!! My favorite photos are the ones of Slate when James is bringing Atlas into the recovery room for him to hold. Slate could barely contain his excitement, and the joy is so authentic and pure.

Being a Richmond VA birth photographer has led to so many incredible experiences. I look forward to meeting more couples who want to share this journey with me!

          Charlottesville VA Garden Wedding

The last time I was with Brooke and Trevor was their engagement session in downtown Richmond VA this past fall. These two are really hard not to fall in love with immediately! And basically, that’s the story of their relationship. It was love at first sight for both of them! Brooke and Trevor met when they were both studying in Australia and have been together ever since.

Charlottesville had beautiful weather for them on their wedding day. Brooke has such amazing style, that it came as no surprise that this was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen. She arranged all the details herself and planned every single bit! If she hasn’t ever considered a career in event planning and design, she definitely needs to. I have seen so many beautiful outdoor garden weddings this year, and this one was a dream.

Trevor and Brooke have a contagious positive energy around them. When you are around them, you just smile and feel so happy. Their love is palpable and radiates every room they walk into. It was so incredible to see them share their love with all their family and friends who traveled the world to celebrate. These two hold family very dear, so it was an emotional day for everyone.

From the beginning of the day, I have so many beautiful bridal details of Brooke’s to photograph. It felt like I was documenting items for a bridal magazine. This has been a highlight of my wedding photography career, and I am so excited to have been chosen to document this dream couple’s wedding day. I know they are having an incredible honeymoon in Greece and have an amazing life together ahead of them!
