Bald Head Island Wedding Photographer

Abigail and I were lucky enough to go to Elon University together for undergrad, and she is such a sweet human being. When she met TJ her life changed for the better. No one could have put this transition into better words than her maid of honor. During her toast she explained that as soon as Abigail met TJ, she became a better person. The two of them together have the cutest traditions and quirks that make them the couple they are today. They care deeply for each other and others.

I knew this wedding was going to be a special day for so many reasons. First, Abigail and TJ had to reschedule their wedding from last fall to May of this year because of hurricanes. Bald Head Island was under water during their first wedding date! These two patiently waited for several more months to be able to share their vows with each other on the island that means so much to them and their families.

As soon as I arrived at Abigail’s beach house on the morning of her wedding day, the room was filled with joy. She had a collection of uplifting bridesmaids sharing their favorite memories of Abigail. TJ was having the same experience with his groomsmen in their own house.

When we drove to the marsh where they wanted to share their first look, everyone was full of emotion. It finally settled in that they were going to have their dream day. The exchange between Abigail and TJ as they shared their first look was precious. I’ve never seen smiles so big. I lost count of how many times they said I love you!!

The day continued to be full of emotion. This included happy tears and laughter. All the guests were interconnected and shared the same love for this couple as a whole. It was evident in so many ways, and there was no shortage of people willing to share sweet memories of Abigail and TJ.

This year has been full of weddings that have left me speechless in the best ways. Abigail and TJ had a beautiful day full of boho decorations. However, what I really took away from it wasn’t how aesthetically lovely everything was. These two have a palpable connection. You could feel the love between them. They glow in each other’s presence. You can see it in the way they look at each other. These moments are what make weddings come alive.

Katie and Sean have the cutest story of how they met. Sean’s mom is a coworker of Katie’s and came up to her one day with a proposal. She wanted Katie to date her son, but not until he was more settled and ready for dating! Flashforward to a year later and these two met at Sean’s mom’s wedding. Apparently Sean was super shy and the two didn’t hit it off right away! Timing is everything!

As a bit more time passed, Sean moved to Charlottesville and these two cuties started hanging out more. They soon realized they had an awesome connection! Sean’s momma has a good eye for matchmaking!

For their proposal, Sean brought Katie on a trip down south to Charleston for a beautiful getaway. They were celebrating their year and a half anniversary and Sean told her he had a present for her! They had spent a lovely day exploring Charleston and enjoying the best southern food and drinks. When he told her he had a surprise, Sean asked Katie to close her eyes. When she opened them, he was down on one knee!! They immediately called all their closest friends and family to share the news, and these two babes are getting married in September!

I love when couples share their love stories with me. It gives me such a sweet insight into your connection as a couple, and I love hearing what brought everyone together. It’s always so different, and I love that Sean’s mom played such a big part in their meeting. Family means everything to them, so it’s only fitting that family brought them together.

Katie and Sean live in Charlottesville, but are moving to Richmond! Because of this, they wanted their Charlottesville mountain engagement photos to reflect their love of the city where they fell in love with each other! We had a perfect day together and I am so excited for their wedding and life together!

      The Renaissance Richmond VA Wedding

Katlyn and Shane planned a beautiful May wedding at The Renaissance in Richmond. These two have such fun personalities, and I knew their wedding was going to be beautiful and have a fun reception.

The ladies spent their morning getting ready at Quirk Hotel in downtown Richmond. Katlyn gave all her bridesmaids matching floral robes to wear as they had hair and makeup done. The robes were perfect in celebration of spring! Quirk is one of my favorite getting ready locations for weddings. The hotel has so many beautiful spaces for bridal detail photos and bridesmaid pictures. It was also conveniently down the block from Katlyn’s wedding venue the Renaissance.

I love being able to take all the portraits of the wedding day on the streets of Richmond. Every block has it’s own unique character. We were able to photograph the girls in so many locations that were different from the groom and groomsmen. It gives you so much variety! The bridesmaids and Katlyn also walked down the middle of Broad Street for some group photos and had a lot of people shouting congratulations as they drove by!

The Renaissance was decorated with beautiful florals and uplighting that matched the color scheme of the day. It was easy to transition the space from ceremony to reception, and the florals were able to be used twice! This is such an awesome idea when you are trying to get the most out of your floral investment.

All in all, Katlyn and Shane had a beautiful day full of fun celebrations. They ended the evening with a light saber exit in a nod to May the Fourth be with you.

        Charleston Battery Engagement Photos

When Amber emailed to tell me all about her engagement, I was so happy! She and my little sister know each other from childhood, and I’m excited to see her find happiness with a wonderful man.

Charleston is a special place for Amber and Ben for many reasons. These two lovebirds live in Richmond but wanted to have their engagement photos taken in the beautiful southern city. I don’t blame them! Charleston is the most photogenic city I have ever seen. Amber and Ben made a weekend out of their trip south, and the engagement session was a fun part of it.

We started taking photos in the beautiful Charleston neighborhoods. Spring has brought so many gorgeous flowers to the sidewalks and homes of Charleston. It’s one of my favorite things about the city. We were lucky enough to have so many sweet smelling flowers around us too!

Surprisingly, we did not run into too many crowds as we took photos. A few horse drawn carriages passed us and shouted congratulations. For the most part, we were able to enjoy some privacy as we frolicked around!

After we felt pretty confident we had taken enough engagement photos around downtown Charleston, we hopped in our cars and made our way to Sullivan’s Island. This was a beautiful change of scenery and gave Amber and Ben a big space to dance around for silly and sweet images. These two were even brave enough to hop into the ocean in the very end for some cute water images! Poor Ben!

I had so much fun showing Amber and Ben around my favorite places in Charleston. I know they are going to have an incredible wedding day next spring in Zion, and I can’t wait to see how the day unfolds!

I have photographed all of the amazing life events for Christy and James over the years. I met them for their engagement session several years ago. Christy and I discovered that we went to high schools very close together. It’s incredible making connections like this with all my couples and their families. The world is such a small place. From their wedding to baby Slate and now baby number two, I consider Christy and James very good friends.

The Crawfords live on a beautiful farm in Charlottesville that they have completely made their own. I love watching their life updates when they post photos of little Slate helping with farm chores like taking care of the chickens. They are such a sweet family and lead such meaningful lives. Christy and James really do enrich the lives of everyone around them.

Any day now they will be welcoming baby number two into their lives. If the timing works out, I will be lucky enough to be in the delivery room for his arrival! I’m so thankful to have couples who are so dear to my heart that they welcome me into this really intimate experience. I’ve shared so many precious life changing memories with so many people, and being in the delivery room is such a cherished one.

Slate is the happiest kid I have ever met, and I am certain his baby brother will be just the same. This whole family breathes life into every situation and their presence has enriched my life greatly. Christy will officially be a boy mom in a few short days. She is poised and patience and her boys are lucky to have her raising them!
